I wish I could bring you home with me. I wish I had a house out in the country with a huge fenced property, somewhere sunny, so that I could adopt all of the one-eyed dogs, the elderly dogs, the three-legged dogs, the mis-understood dogs, and we could all go running and play and lie in the sun all day. I would hire a Veterinarian to take care of your every need. That is my dream, Calan…

This little one-eyed dog came in to PAWS as a stray. While photographing her, I found that she LOVES to catch tennis balls. That’s right; a little dog with one eye can catch a tennis ball out of mid-air, I’d say 75 percent of the time! (It would probably go up to 90% if the “throwee” had decent aim 🙂 ) I was so amazed and inspired by this happy girl. I wondered, how many humans would stick with their favorite activities after losing an eye, especially if those activities relied on accurate vision? I don’t know if I can say I would. This dog doesn’t know that her depth-perception is affected by having only one eye. She doesn’t care. All she knows is, she loves catching those tennis balls! BTW, she is also very well loved; her guardian called the shelter and left several messages after-hours, looking for her, and they were reunited that day.
