Annie is sweet 10-year-old lady who served as a faithful companion to one man for her entire life. Unfortunately, that man (let’s call him “Dick”) was undeserving of such devotion. Dick met a human woman and got married. Sadly, Dick’s new wife didn’t like dogs…so Annie got the shaft. Luckily, Annie was taken to PAWS, where she would get good care. Although she continued to watch and wait for Dick to come back for her, Annie found a new loving family and home, somewhere safe and warm to spend her Golden Years. No more Dicks for this deserving gal.

She followed me around the yard; trying so desperately to get my attention. I was busy, focused, I didn’t have time to pay attention to her tricks. And she tried every trick in the book to impress me. Finally, finally, I felt her eyes drop, a resigned droop fell across her shoulders as she walked away, her head heavy and low. It occurred to me then, at that moment, that perhaps we weren’t so different after all. There were many times when I, too, felt like giving up, felt like the world was against me. I stopped what I was doing (what could possibly be so important?) and walked silently to where she sat; dejected, rejected, she had given up. Quietly, tentatively, I raised my eyes to hers.
Our eyes met. She smiled a thankful grin, raised her camera, and took this shot.
